Freetown, Sierra Leone — August 14, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formally indicted Abu Kamara, a former Finance Manager at the Customs Department of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), on nine counts of possession of unexplained wealth. The charges, filed under Section 27(1)(b) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008 (as amended in 2019), allege that Kamara acquired assets far exceeding his official earnings.
Kamara, whose annual net salary was Le152,790, reportedly amassed a portfolio of properties and vehicles between March 1, 2019, and June 31, 2025, that investigators say cannot be justified by his declared income.
According to the ACC, Kamara is linked to the following acquisitions: A registered business, UK Trading Mini Mart SL Ltd, with outlets in Ogoo Farm, Kobba Farm, and along the Bo-Kenema Highway; Ten town lots of land in Gloucester Village, purchased for a combined Le505,000; Multiple residential properties, including: A one-storey building in Black Johnson,
a four-storey building at No. 8 Cemetery Road in Ogoo Farm, a three-storey building under construction at Cemetery Roadin Ogoo Farm, a four-storey building at Babadorie Hills, and two vehicles: A Nissan (Reg. No. APW 606) bought for Le60,000, and a white Hyundai Jeep (Reg. No. UMU 023) purchased for Le300,000.
The ACC confirmed that Kamara remains at large. By Section 89(7)(a) of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act No. 9 of 2019, the Commission intends to proceed with his trial in absentia.
In a statement issued by Abubakarr Turay, Director of Public Education and Outreach, the Commission reiterated its dedication to combating corruption and safeguarding public resources.
