Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has urged Sierra Leoneans to remain vigilant in the fight against the MPOX outbreak, even as the country records significant progress in recovery rates.
During a visit to the Police Training School in Hastings, one of the main treatment centers, Dr. Jalloh emphasized the need for ongoing community engagement and early case detection.
“There is still a need for vigilant community outreach programs and public awareness efforts to ensure that suspected cases are taken to treatment facilities early,” he stated.
The Vice President commended the national response efforts and acknowledged promising recovery figures, revealing that approximately 1,630 individuals have recently recovered from the virus, including 18 at the Hastings treatment center alone. While new cases continue to surface in the Western Area and other parts of the country, he assured the public that the coordinated treatment approach is yielding positive results.
Dr. Jalloh also praised the collaborative work between government institutions and international development partners, crediting their joint efforts for the steady improvements in the national health response.
“Citizens can be sure of quality healthcare services at these treatment facilities thanks to the collaboration between government and our development partners,” he affirmed.
He specifically recognized the contributions of the Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Agency, the Ministry of Finance, the World Bank, Gavi, WHO, and the World Food Programme in strengthening Sierra Leone’s public health infrastructure.
As the nation continues its battle against MPOX, the Vice President’s message reinforces the importance of vigilance and cooperation in ensuring sustained progress and effective containment.
