Freetown, December 20, 2025: The Wilberforce Lodge has brought festive cheer to children and families this holiday season, extending its annual Christmas outreach to patients at the Dr. Robin Coker Paediatric Ward of Connaught Hospital before hosting a lively celebration at its Masonic Temple on Tower Hill.
Hospital Outreach
As part of its humanitarian initiative, Lodge members distributed assorted candies to children receiving treatment at the ward, while staff members were presented with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their dedication and service.
Ivan Jones, speaking during the hospital visit, explained the importance of ensuring that children unable to attend the party due to ill health were not left out of the celebrations.
“Because of the condition of some of the children who could not make it to the party, we decided to bring the gifts to them so they can also be part of the love we are spreading this Christmas,” he said.
Jones also commended the nursing staff for their relentless efforts, describing their service as commendable and selfless, and assured that the Lodge would continue this charitable initiative in the years ahead.
Following the hospital outreach, the Lodge hosted its annual Christmas party at the Masonic Temple. Children from schools around the Tower Hill community joined in the festivities, enjoying music, food, and drinks. The event featured quizzes and musical competitions, with prizes awarded to outstanding participants, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement.
Brother Calvin Macauley emphasized that supporting children remains central to the Lodge’s mission of brotherly love and sharing.
“We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of children and vulnerable groups within the community,” he noted.
Gratitude from Caregivers
Expressing appreciation on behalf of Connaught Hospital, nursing staff member Christiana M. Vandi thanked the Lodge for its generosity.
“The joy you have brought to these children today means a lot to them and to us as caregivers,” she said.
