Sierra Leone — August 3, 2025: A Wilberforce resident and mechanic, Arab Kamara, appeared before the Magistrate Court in Freetown on August 2, 2025, charged with larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Kamara is accused of stealing a Mercedes Benz ML vehicle and parts valued at NLe 6,450, which had been entrusted to him for repairs by his neighbor, the complainant in the case.
According to prosecution witness Samuel Ndoye, Kamara had volunteered to fix the vehicle but allegedly disappeared with both the car and its components. Ndoye told the court that he had trusted Kamara due to their neighborly relationship, but was compelled to report the matter after repeated insults from the accused.
Testifying before the court, Detective Police Constable (DPC) Michael Ansuman Conteh, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, confirmed that he and DPC 1394 were assigned to investigate the case on March 15, 2025. Upon arriving at the scene on Wilberforce Road, they observed that several parts had been removed from the vehicle.
Conteh further stated that on May 3, a caution statement was taken from Kamara. The statement was recorded in English, translated into Krio, and acknowledged by the accused as accurate—though he refused to sign it.
The accused, Arab Kamara, is currently remanded in custody as the matter continues before the court. The case has been adjourned to September 4, 2025, for further proceedings.
