March 18, 2026: Freetown Terminal Limited has celebrated its 15th anniversary with a corporate event highlighting its contributions to trade facilitation and economic growth in Sierra Leone.
The ceremony, held at the Country Lodge in Freetown, brought together partners, distinguished guests, and well-wishers to reflect on the company’s journey and reaffirm its commitment to supporting national development through efficient port services and strategic partnerships.
Reflections on Growth
In his keynote address, Captain Fabjanko Kokan recalled the early days of the company, when operations began with a small team and limited capacity. At the time, vessels berthed only three times a week.
“Despite the numerous challenges faced during those early stages, the company gradually overcame obstacles and built a success story that has brought stakeholders closer together today,” he said.
Captain Kokan described the company’s journey as one shaped by teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. He reaffirmed Freetown Terminal’s commitment to continued investment in infrastructure, power generation, solar energy, and modern equipment to enhance port operations and efficiency. He also emphasized the company’s focus on human capital development, noting that education remains a powerful tool for sustainable progress.
Speaking at the event, Yvonne Elliot reflected on the company’s evolution since its early years, noting significant developments in 2011 and further expansion through 2018 and beyond. She highlighted the organization’s consistent collaboration with government institutions, customs authorities, and other stakeholders to strengthen trade and improve Sierra Leone’s economy.
According to Elliot, the company’s success has been built on a shared vision of development and partnership, with trade facilitation and port efficiency at its core. She acknowledged the vital role of cooperation between the company, government, and partners in achieving its mandate and supporting national economic growth.
Elliot also paid tribute to the 73 employees who have served the company since its inception, praising their resilience, dedication, and commitment. She noted that their contributions have been central to the organization’s steady growth and achievements over the past 15 years.
The anniversary celebration served not only as a reflection on past milestones but also as a renewed pledge to drive Sierra Leone’s economic development. With plans for continued investment in infrastructure, technology, and human capital, Freetown Terminal Limited is positioning itself as a key player in the country’s trade and logistics future.
