Freetown, Sierra Leone – Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) has launched its 2026 Cricket 4 Good programme, setting an ambitious target of 30,000 new participants across 50 communities in the Western Area.
The initiative, unveiled this week, aims to train newcomers and organize an inter-community cricket championship trophy designed to identify emerging talent for Sierra Leone’s cricket tiers.
According to CSL, 80 development officers will be deployed in ten groups, each tasked with co-opting 300 newcomers from every participating community.
Last year, the association targeted 6,000 participants from 10 communities, building on the success of its Women’s Cricket Programme, which CSL says yielded “fruitful dividends.”
Officials note that cricket in Sierra Leone is advancing at a pace “not envisioned ten years ago,” with grassroots expansion now seen as the cornerstone for nurturing future stars.
Cricket 4 Good is CSL’s flagship community engagement programme, designed to use cricket as a tool for social inclusion, youth development, and talent discovery. Sierra Leone’s cricket revival has been driven by structured youth programmes, women’s cricket initiatives, and inter-community competitions. The sport has steadily gained momentum in the Western Area, with CSL positioning cricket as both a recreational activity and a pathway to professional opportunities.
