The Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media questioning the quality and safety of ONGA Maggi seasoning, stating that scientific tests have consistently confirmed the product meets national standards.

In a public notice issued by the Bureau, authorities described the claims as false and misleading, emphasizing that laboratory test results spanning the last five years show that ONGA Maggi complies with the country’s quality and safety requirements.

According to the Bureau, recent testing reaffirmed that the product remains suitable for its intended use and poses no quality concerns to consumers.

“The Sierra Leone Standards Bureau strongly objects to these accusations,” the statement noted, adding that current laboratory analyses continue to verify the product’s compliance with national standards.

The Bureau highlighted its mandate as Sierra Leone’s sole statutory National Quality Infrastructure institution, established by an Act of Parliament in 1996 to conduct scientific testing of water, food, and non-food products. The agency carries out assessments through its Food Microbiology and Chemistry laboratories to ensure products on the market meet required safety and quality benchmarks.

In light of the controversy, the Bureau urged members of the public and the business community to seek clarification directly from its headquarters at the Wahman Abu Compound, Kelsey Road, Ferry Junction, Freetown, rather than relying on unverified information circulating online.

The Standards Bureau further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers through independent scientific testing and quality assurance services.
