Freetown — A 34-year-old mason, Alimamy Kamara, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after pleading guilty to fraudulently converting a motorcycle entrusted to him for commercial use.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1, who convicted Kamara on one count of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to court records, on Sunday, 17 August 2025, at Kowa Drive, Motormeh, Regent Village in the Mountain Rural District, Kamara converted to his own use a blue Star TVS motorcycle, registration number AYE 463, valued at Le36,000. The motorcycle had been entrusted to him by Ibrahim Gbandia for commercial purposes.

When the charge was read, Kamara immediately pleaded guilty. Prosecutor DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo confirmed the facts of the case and noted that the defendant had no prior criminal record.

In mitigation, Kamara asked the court for leniency, expressing remorse and pleading for mercy. Magistrate Jah acknowledged that the defendant had admitted guilt at the earliest opportunity, saving the court’s time, and had shown remorse. However, he emphasized the seriousness of the offence and sentenced Kamara to five years’ imprisonment.
